Emerging designers challenged to pair ethics and aesthetics
Opportunity to present at Milan Fashion Week February 2018 and secure a retail partnership
31 March 2017: Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (CNMI), in collaboration with
Eco-Age, today launched The CNMI Green Carpet Talent Competition 2017.
This ground-breaking competition invites emerging designers to create a bespoke look which celebrates Italian craftsmanship and design and social and environmental values.
All designers are challenged to incorporate the Green Carpet Challenge Principles of Sustainable Excellence, Eco-Age’s sustainable guidelines, into their bespoke designs.
CNMI and Eco-Age have curated a high-profile judging panel* of global fashion industry influencers to recognise the talents of outstanding emerging designers. The collections, or principal elements of it, must be produced in Italy and truly represent the marriage of ethics and aesthetics.
Eco-Age, will mentor the final shortlisted emerging designers to create their looks.
Five finalists will be invited to attend The Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia 2017**, at Teatro alla Scala on 24th September, where the winner of The GCC Awards for Best Emerging Designer, will be announced.
Carlo Capasa, Chairman of CNMI, said: “The CNMI Green Carpet Talent Competition is a beautiful and unique project that is part of the first Green Carpet Fashion Awards and it joins two pillars of the strategy of CNMI: new talent and sustainability. A project that looks to the future of fashion, represented by sustainability, seen through the eyes of emerging designers. This initiative has within it an important educational aspect, because sustainability must become one of the characteristics of the future of fashion: clothing and accessories not only beautiful and well made, but also sustainable! A real cultural revolution made by millennials for millennials”.
Livia Firth, Founder and Creative Director of Eco-Age, said: “It is so exciting to work with emerging designers – I know a lot of them already work in a sustainable way and it will be so special to give them this platform to share their stories. For those who haven’t tried to incorporate sustainable fabrics for example, it will be fun to see what their creativity brings to this space. It will be so much fun!”.
*The judging panel will be announced Spring 2017
