A trusty coat is the staple of any winter wardrobe – in fact, it’s probably going to be the most worn item over the next few months, and investing in high quality outerwear will see you through the cold for many years.
However, with so many materials involved – from plastic-based linings to animal-derived stuffings – before you even start narrowing down a style that you love, it can be challenging to find a coat that is also sustainable.
So with winter knocking at the door, we’ve selected a few of our favourite women’s winter coats to inspire you to wrap up ethically for many winters to come:

This dark grey coat from Filippa K is made using recycled wool and mohair has a traceable and transparent supply chain. The coat is lined with polyester made from recycled plastic bottles, making it perfect for keeping you cosy on even the coldest days.
Nordic Winter Puffer, €112.50, Hoodlamb
This vegan version of the classic puffer parka jacket by Hoodlamb is made using lower impact materials than a traditional puffer coat. It has an organic hemp and cotton shell and Thermore® Ecodown® insulation made of recycled plastic bottles to keep you warm when the weather outside is frightful. Although faux fur can be a challenge in terms of the environment, this coat uses is Satifur, which is made using acrylic but also hemp, making it a great alternative.
