Guests arriving at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan walked the iconic green carpet (made from ECONYL® regenerated nylon), wearing sustainable looks that reflect our Eco-Age principles of aesthetics with ethics.
Each of the looks showcased a range of innovative new materials including sustainably produced Century Cashmere, handwoven palm straw, and recycled polyester and nylon, and Piñatex pineapple leather alternative.

Amber Valletta in Agnona for the GCC
Amber Valletta wears Agnona for the Green Carpet Challenge. This white hand stitched jacket is made from Century Cashmere. Century Cashmere is an iconic Agnona fabric sustainably produced in the Zegna fabric mill and sourced from Inner Mongolia, where the farming is not intensive. This means that damage to the environment is minimised and traditional farming has remained unchanged. The scarf has been hand woven by the San Patrignano recovery community – each passage of the weft yarns across the warp represents a step forward in life for a person recovering from drug addiction in the San Patrignano programme as they master a craft with a renewed sense of purpose.

Sara Sampaio in Alberta Ferretti for the GCC
Sara Sampaio wears Alberta Ferretti for the Green Carpet Challenge. This nude GOTS certified organic silk georgette dress has been produced in Florence and all other components for this bespoke piece have been repurposed from unused samples from Alberta Ferretti past collections.

Tina Kunakey in Diesel for the GCC
@Tinakunakey wears @diesel for the #GreenCarpetChallenge @ecoage @cameramoda. This look has been made from regenerated cotton denim and natural indigo, using natural dying agents to create darker shades on the fabric. The treatment and frayed edges of the dress and jacket has been achieved with a treatment called “Ice Blasting”. Ice Blasting is an innovative technique for the abrasion of denim and does not generate any secondary waste. Dry ice is non-toxic, non-hazardous and does not release harmful gases into the atmosphere. #GCFAItalia

Annabelle Belmondo in Ermanno Scervino for the GCC
@annabelle.belmondo wears @ermannoscervino for the #GreenCarpetChallenge @ecoage @cameramoda. The evening dress, specifically created for the occasion by a team of skilled seamstresses in the Florentine atelier of the Maison, has been made using GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic silk in compliance with the sustainability standards of the event. GOTS is a certification that ensures the raw materils are organic and no harmful chemicals have been used during production. #GCFAItalia

Julianne Moore in Ferragamo for the GCC
Julianne Moore wears a custom Ferragamo dress and Chopard jewellery for the Green Carpet Challenge. This bespoke gown has been made from ‘perPETual’ fabric, named this way because it is made from post-consumer PET bottles transformed into jersey by a patented polymerization process. perPETual has developed breakthrough proprietary recycling technology (ReNEW process), to transform 100% postconsumer-waste plastic bottles in to 100% recycled polyester filament yarn. The look is completed with custom shoes and bag made from GOTS certified silk from Centro Seta, and Oeko-Tex 100 leather tanned with Metal Free Hydroki® Technology and finished with Smartech technology, meaning no water, or CO2 emissions.

Petra Nemcova in Genny for the GCC
Petra Nemcova wears Genny and Chopard jewellery for the Green Carpet Challenge. This gown designed by Sara Cavazza Facchini, has been made from GOTS certified organic double silk satin from Taroni silk, embellished with Swarovski lead-free Advanced Crystals.

Hari Nef X Gucci for the GCC
Together with @gucci President and CEO #MarcoBizzari at the #GreenCarpetFashionAwards, @harinef wore a custom #Gucci gown designed with all over sustainable sequins in recycled PET, featured in coloured stripes and multi-dimensional flower embroideries, and sustainably coloured beaded fringes made of glass bugles. Her accessories included a sustainable sequin clutch featuring a butterfly closure in recycled brass with lead-free metal hardware and metal free leather, sandals with metal free leather, sustainable sequins and nickel-free hardware. Elements of her look were selected for their low impact and low chemical properties, using recycled metal accessories, Italian vegetable tan soles and insoles made with FSC certified cellulose and recycled polyester yarn. Doina Ciobanu in Jean-Louis Sabaji for the GCC
@doina wears @JeanlouisSabaji Couture for the #GreenCarpetChallenge @ecoage @cameramoda. This hand-woven straw and raffia lace ruffled mini-dress features a sculpted bodice crafted from palm sheath. The palm straw was sourced from Amsheet, a coastal town in Lebanon which has been known as a hub for tradesmen dating back centuries. It is still a small craft-based community, in part sustained by weaving this wicker into diverse objects. The materials were sourced from this community, then woven in the brand’s atelier. #GCFAItalia

This custom silk gown has been created in Italy reproducing the print from an original work of the futurist Maestro Giacomo Balla. The designer, Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, is the third generation of the family company founded in 1965 by Delia Biagiotti, preserving the heritage of Made in Italy. #GCFAItalia

This dress has been made with upcycled silk chiffon crepon, with dubbed ISKO denim combined with silk and Newlife™ organza, a recycled material made in Italy from used PET bottles. This denim has been created using ISKO’s patented Recall technology, to retain its shape, meaning that it needs less washing and will therefore use less resources during care. ISKO has been a pioneer of responsible innovation and technology in the denim fashion industry for over 20 years.

This custom gown includes context from Argentina, as the designers are proud to be working with Calu Rivero on this look, supporting the #NiUnaMenos movement.

This bespoke gown has been made from two types of repurposed certified organic silk produced by two historical Italian textile manufacturers. No new materials have been dyed nor produced to create this dress. The “Pureté” evening dress has been crafted in Rome by the Valentino Haute Couture Atelier. The skilled hands of the seamstresses worked for 370 hours to create this piece. #GCFAItalia

@roja_alessandro wears a black shawl collar Tuxedo by @zegnaofficial in Achillfarm fabric for the #GreenCarpetChallenge @ecoage @cameramoda, which is made with 95% wool and 5% silk in the iconic Lanificio Zegna located in the countryside town of Trivero. Achill wool farm is an Australian property located in the New South Wales region, where Merino sheep are bred. Those sheep are raised in the open according to modern and respectful grazing practices.
