As a child, playing in puddles had to be one of life’s biggest joys. Squelching through mud in my favourite boots, pretending to be an intrepid adventurer was a simple pleasure that has left a lasting impact, especially as I watch my own two boys discover their world around them. Sadly, many kids wellies are made on the cheap from synthetic materials that take years to breakdown in landfill. But there are options out there that won’t destroy the very environment your children are discovering. Here are some of our favourites.
Frugi, Puddle Buster wellies
Frugi started with just a few products in their range but now have a huge offering of kids clothing and accessories ranging from organic cotton basics to jackets made from recycled plastic bottles. Their adorable bright wellies are made from natural rubber, are PVC free and feature a cotton lining, so your kids are literally treading lightly on the planet. Pair them with the matching Puddle Buster jacket and trousers made from recycled polyester.
Aigle, Woodypop Wellington boots
Aigle’s master craftsmen have been hand making their signature boots in France for more than 160 years. Made from natural rubber, they’re built to withstand the elements and they look pretty chic too. The kids boots come in a range of plain colours and prints as well as high and low styles. The Woodypop features an adjustable strap, a removable insole and faux leather detailing on the back.
Vivobarefoot, Fulham rubber boots
Vivo’s are designed to make your kids feel like they are in bare feet. These are probably more of a wellie/Chelsea boot hybrid, but they’re functional and most importantly, puddle proof. They also feature a canvas lining as well as removable thermal insoles, so not only will they keep kids feet dry, they’ll keep them nice and warm too.
