Chopard and Chloë Sevigny Launch Green Carpet Collection Evening Bag at Cannes

Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress, director and celebrated fashion muse Chloë Sevigny has collaborated with Chopard to design and launch a Green Carpet Collection (GCC) evening bag with a sustainable story.

Chopard announced today at Cannes its commitment to expand The Journey to Sustainable Luxury to include its luxury accessories collection – starting with responsibly-sourced leather evening bag, designed in collaboration with award-winning actress Chloë Sevigny.

The Journey to Sustainable Luxury, launched in 2012, is Chopard’s commitment to sourcing responsibly throughout its supply chain. Through this journey, in July 2018, Chopard became the first luxury jewellery and watch Maison to create a 100% ethical gold supply chain.

Sustainability is at the very heart of the design of the geometric evening bag,  which is made from responsibly-sourced and traceable leather and was inspired by iconic images of the 1940s.  Traceability in the leather industry is a challenge due to the varied locations and processes involved in the leather supply chain. For this reason, Chopard worked extensively on traceability and collaborated with its suppliers to ensure that the project aligned with the Eco-Age Principles for Sustainable Excellence. This included working with a tannery with a robust environmental management system ensuring all processes and resources, including water, waste and energy were responsibly managed, and using reinforcement materials made from natural latex and vegetable tanned leather waste.

“Chloë is a global style icon”, says Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of Chopard. “When I heard that Chloë also has a real interest for sustainability, I knew she would be the perfect person to collaborate with to design a special evening bag for Chopard. True luxury is knowing the story behind the pieces we wear, and I am thrilled that Chloë shares this mindset and has joined us on our Journey to Sustainable Luxury.”

“I love collaborating with brands who aren’t afraid to do things differently,” adds Chloë. “The jewellery industry is known for its environmental and social challenges, but Chopard is committed to doing business in a better way and has proven that it can be done. I was inspired by all of their incredible work as part of The Journey to Sustainable Luxury and my design actually came from the theme of LOVE- for people and planet. I hope the bag that we have created is embraced and cherished for years to come.”
