Conscious Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, we’ve pulled together a few of our favourite eco-friendly and ethical gift ideas for mothers and mother figures.

Mother’s Day is a day for appreciation and celebration of the mothers and mother figures in our lives who raised us, supported us, provided for us and loved us (which, let’s be honest, we should be doing every day of the year – Mums are superheroes!).  This Mother’s Day, show your love and gratitude with a conscious gift that won’t just make your Mum happy, but will keep Mother Earth happy too.

Pampering & Wellness

This Mother’s Day, treat your mum to a little pampering and relaxation.  For some home pampering, you can make a super simple DIY beauty gift that is less wasteful than many of the shop-bought alternatives. Try rustling up a Coconut Oil and Coffee Body Scrub or a jar of Lavender bath salts – see our Self Care Sunday recipes for more homemade pampering ideas.

Alternatively, treat her to an organic, synthetic-free facial such as those at Content Beauty and Wellbeing. Content’s range of organic facials can also be tailored to specific needs and requests such as gluten-free or vegan. Or spoil her with a stress-busting full body massage – Haeckels’ Thalassotherapy Treatment Room offers a series of unique treatments to balance, stimulate and intensely nourish the skin through the use of seawater.

To truly spoil her, check her into an eco spa or book onto an eco wellness retreat for the weekend so she can fully disconnect. She might even let you tag along!

Food & Drink

Everyone appreciates a home-cooked meal, especially Mums.  For recipe inspiration, try Max La Manna’s zero waste broccoli stem fusilli. You can even try making your own pasta if you want to pull out all the stops and really impress her.

If you’d rather catch up while dining out, book a table at a sustainable restaurant, or spend the afternoon indulging in classic British style with an afternoon tea. Petersham Nurseries’ afternoon tea menu changes seasonally but is always made from responsibly-sourced ingredients. For all the meat-free mamas, check out the special Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at Retreat Kitchen.

Flowers & Plants

Spend time together, learn a new skill, and take home a beautiful, seasonal bouquet with a floristry class, such as Petersham Nurseries’ Mother’s Day floristry workshop and Daylesford Farm’s family floristry course in the Cotswolds.

Alternatively, order some beautiful flowers to be delivered from a local, independent florist. FLOOM is an online floral-delivery service based in the UK and newly in LA, NYC and San Francisco that only works with independent florists, who create unique, stunning bouquets using seasonal blooms.

Want something that will last a bit longer than cut flowers? A plant for the house or garden will bring joy long after Mother’s Day is over for the year.  See our top 10 house plants for cleaner air and our top 10 plants to attract bees for inspiration.

Gifts

A homemade gift is always thoughtful, but if you don’t have time to make something yourself we’re sure she’ll love Sana Jardin‘s socially-conscious luxury fragrances, which are free of phthalates, artificial colorants, parabens and formaldehydes, with no animal testing used. Or why not buy her something that she can treasure for the home? See our favourite ethical homeware brands for inspiration.
