We close 2018 with mixed feelings – it was such a successful year for Eco-Age, which makes us so proud and excited for what’s ahead of us, but it was also a catastrophic year geopolitically, filled with populism, fake news, growing confusion, bitterness and anger. These times are difficult to navigate and looking back at what has been may help us shape what is yet to come.
If we were to compile our own Eco-Age version of the equivalent of Top of the Pops – here is what we would come up with:
The transformative campaigns that kept us hoping: The growing awareness of gender inequality; the realisation of the impact of plastic in our lives and the legal requirement for a living wage in supply chains worldwide.
The books for tips and inspiration we can’t stop reading: Becoming by Michelle Obama and
21 lessons for the 21stCentury by Yuval Noah Harari.
The song we can’t stop dancing to: ‘This is Me’ – Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman)
The Eco-Age lunch salad we can’t stop eating: Rocket, avocado, red peppers and tomatoes (sometimes with the addition of goat’s cheese)
The clothes we talked mostly about: Recycled, upcycled, swapped, altered, mended, vintage
The brands which inspired us most: Birdsong, Dyne.Life,
Gucci,
Stella McCartney,
Mother of Pearl, Zazi Vintage, Bodice Studio
The business leaders we bowed to: Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele shaking up the jewellery industry when they announced that
Chopard reached
100% ethical gold supply chain.
The Eco-Age events which made history (for us!): The Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia and
The Commonwealth Fashion Exchange.
The Eco-Age developments we are so excited about: The launch of our
new digital platform (have you
signed up to it yet by the way?) and the opening of our
new headquarters in Milan, Italy.
The heroes we look up to: Sinéad Burke, Cameron Russell, Stacey Dooley, Mary Creagh MP, Jameela Jamil, Sharice Davids, Michelle Obama, David Attenborough, Malala Yousafzai, Emma Gonzales, Greta Thunberg
As we head into a new year, we’re taking a look back at some Eco-Age highlights from the past 12 months. From the
Commonwealth Fashion Exchange, the
CNMI Green Carpet Talent Competition and the second edition of the
Green Carpet Fashion Awards, Italia, to
opening our new office in Milan – what a year 2018 has been!
